The Ingenious i in MySQL - Chatting Up Zak & Georghttp://www.php-mag.net/weblogs/ipm_phpconf_04/archives/21-The-Ingenious-i-in-MySQL-Chatting-Up-Zak-Georg.html2004-11-10T02:31PHP Conference & MySQL ComConby Indu Britto

There are a number of changes for working with MySQL in PHP 5, due in no small part to new features and APIs coming online in MySQL 4.1 and 5.0. At IPC2k4, Zak Greant and Georg Richter walked the audience through the ingenious "i" in MySQL, mysqli. Further, Georg Richter, author and maintainer of the mysqli extension, held court in S5 on the new key features, the object-oriented interface, and how to use mysqli for writing better applications. I spoke to Zak and Georg on this "improved", and "ingenious", ext/mysqli. Here are the excerpts:

Conference Day One - Part IIhttp://www.php-mag.net/weblogs/ipm_phpconf_04/archives/20-Conference-Day-One-Part-II.html2004-11-10T01:35PHP Conference & MySQL ComConAaron Wormus

Today, I met a lot of cool people, so I'm hesitant to try and remember them all as I'm sure I’ll leave someone out. Anyway, here's a go… Pierre-Alain Joye, Christian Stocker, Zeev Suraski, Pierre Minnuer, Alan Knowles, Damien Seguy, Radu Negoescu, Sandro Zic, Sebastian Bergmann, and many other people who stopped by the PEAR booth (which I hovered around for part of the morning).

I was able to hit all but one of the sessions I had planned for today. After the extremely interesting and animated session on SQLite with D. Richard Hipp, I got into chatting with Alan Knowles, who showed me some of the cool stuff that he has been working on, this took the place of the MySQL talk that I had planned to go to.

I then decided to hit up a few of the PEAR developers with the "what were you thinking" question. I decided to start with Alan...

Getting Ready for the PDO Meetinghttp://www.php-mag.net/weblogs/ipm_phpconf_04/archives/18-Getting-Ready-for-the-PDO-Meeting.html2004-11-09T19:06PHP Conference & MySQL ComConLukas Smith

It seems I somehow ended up with the responsibility of managing yet another meeting at a PHP Conf. This time around I am arranging a meeting for PDO. I hope that we will be able to lay down the criterias for PDO in order to make it into PHP 5.1 in that meeting. This means we need to bring all open issues on the table and resync everybody's vision. Hopefully most people will be busy drinking beer instead of surfing the Web. That way we might have enough bandwidth to get Wez/George and potentially Andi on board via Skype. I brought along a little mic and usb speakers for this purpose. Lets see how it works out. Otherwise we just need to turn one of us into an audio2ascii gateway :-) ]]>

SessionServer and The Big Documentation Extravaganzahttp://www.php-mag.net/weblogs/ipm_phpconf_04/archives/15-SessionServer-and-The-Big-Documentation-Extravaganza.html2004-11-09T17:48PHP Conference & MySQL ComConStephan Schmidt

I just finished my two talks "SessionServer - maintaining states between several servers" and "The Big Documentation Extravaganza". Both were quite fun to deliver and the audience was great. The rooms were full, although not crowded.

Savant and The Right Reverend Jimhttp://paul-m-jones.com/blog/index.php?p=722004-11-09T16:46Paul M. JonesSlides about XML on Crack/Speed onlinehttp://blog.bitflux.ch/archive/slides-about-xml-on-crack-speed-online.html2004-11-09T13:34Bitflux BlogEven though my talks are only tomorrow morning (starting 8am...), I already put my slides online. This way, you (if you're at the conf) can already have a look and decide, if it's worth to get up that early ;) Or prepare some mean questions or even get more motivation to come and listen to all my many additions I will made to the slides. For all other people not at the conf, it's hopefully a good resource already now.

The slides are here:
